A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan will hear all the 13 petitions against the election of Nawaz Sharif as president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on January 1, Aaj News reported Thursday.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan People's Party, Sheikh Rashid and others have approached the apex court because they term the Nawaz election as PML-N president as unconstitutional. The SC bench will comprise Chief Justice Saqib Nisar as head, Justice Maqbool Baqir and Justice Ijazul Ahsan.

The petitioners are of the view that Nawaz Sharif cannot be elected as party head or office-bearer of the PML-N after having been disqualified by the Supreme Court. They said that Election Act, 2017 and particularly its sections 203 and 232 were against the spirit of the Constitution.
